How green was my overcoat

Jennifer Jordan Reynolds, as 101 Dalmatians’ “Cruella De Vil,” struts an elegant wrap — made of turfgrass sod, not puppy fur — before hundreds of 2007 N.C. State Fair-goers, a newspaper reporter and a couple of TV crews. Reynolds and other models helped keep the public in touch with the turfgrass program of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ Crop Science Department and the Center for Turfgrass Environmental Research and Education. The models, from “Jackie O” to “Elvis,” all sported fashions designed, sodded and grown by the College’s turfgrass research program, recently named the nation’s best by TurfNet magazine.

Local celebrity models, including Steve Troxler, commissioner of the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and the Carolina Rollergirls, wore the grassy designs, as the themed fashion show displayed North Carolina turfgrasses.
