North Carolina is home to approximately one-half million cows which calve every 12 to 14 months, producing 350-400 thousand feeder cattle annually.
Heavier calves are shipped to feedlots while lighter cattle are backgrounded in this region. Articles in this section deal with the economic impacts of marketing these cattle through graded feeder cattle sales, on-farm sales, and retained ownership programs.
