  1. Explain why some insects are regarded as pests.  Distinguish between nuisance pests, economic pests, and pests of medical importance.
  2. Describe the components of a zoonosis.  Explain the relationship between pathogens, vectors, and reservoirs.
  3. List the major groups of insects that serve as vectors of human disease.  Distinguish between mechanical, facultative and obligatory transmission of pathogens.
  4. Explain how insect venoms and allergens may affect the human immune system.  Describe the symptoms and treatment of entomophobia and delusionary parasitosis.
  5. Distinguish between damage and injury.  List at least 10 ways insects can cause damage to growing plants, stored products, and structural materials.
  6. Describe five events or conditions that may lead to the occurrence of pest outbreaks.  Distinguish between the economic injury level and the economic threshold.
  7. List at least six different tools or techniques for sampling insect populations.  Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each.
  8. Distinguish between regular, random, and clumped distributions.  Explain how normal, poisson, and binomial statistics may relate to population sampling.
  9. Demonstrate the correct use of a sequential sampling protocol.
