The cabbage butterflies are often medium to small sized and are distributed worldwide.  They are initially recognized by their white or yellow wings with dark markings.  In contrast to the Nymphalidae, the front legs are well-developed with bifid tarsal claws.  The pupae are often elongate chrysalids.
