Blumeria graminis on Barley

The fungi in this genus were once classified in the genus Erisyphe. They have since been reclassified and are the only genus of powdery mildew fungi that affect monocots (corn and grasses). The cleistothecia are imbedded in the mycelial mat and are surrounded by setose mycelial cells.
