The original was graciously provided by Sean McCann. The image illustrates the complex relationship many ants have with hemipterans, in this case aphids. The ants benefit from having a constant food source (excreted plant sap in the form of honeydew), and the hemipterans benefit from the protection provided by the ants.
The original was graciously provided by Sean McCann. The photo shows a Coelioxys resting on a plant, with its mandibles firmly gripping the stem. There is also a great video of this bee cleaning itself.
