David L. Wray Collembola Collection

Dr. David L. Wray is a retired entomologist, formerly employed by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture, Raleigh. Numbering 11,246 microscope slides and 2,270 vials, Wray's personal collection was donated to the NCSU Insect Collection in 1996 and is strong in identified material from North Carolina but also contains identified springtails collected around the world. The collection includes cotypes (syntypes) of species described by Dr. Wray, who was well-known in North Carolina for his supplements (1950a, 1967a) to Brimley's "Insects of North Carolina." The collection is currently arranged according to Christiansen, K. A., and P. F. Bellinger (1980-1981) Collembola of North America North of the Rio Grande.
