Simone-Finstrom receives Fellowship

Research to look at honey bee colony health

Michael Simone-Finstrom was recently awarded a NIFA Postdoctoral Fellowship to explore many key issues that face honey bee colony health (and therefore the entire agricultural industry which uses bees as pollinators). The project, titled "Mechanisms of parasite resistance in honey bees: interactions among individual and social immune defenses" integrates his own research paradigm with new experimental techniques including instrumental insemination and RNAi technologies. In doing so, Dr. Simone-Finstrom will explore the mechanisms of "social immunity" in honey bees at the physiological, individual, and social levels.
