Please describe your current job position:

I am a landscape designer for Landvision Designs (located at Homewood Nursery). I meet potential clients, design conceptual plans, quote/bid on plans, present ideas to client, sell projects, finalize planting plans, order materials for projects, show installations to crew leader, visit jobs in progress, and help prepare final invoices. Our firm is very team-oriented and collaborate on many projects.

What is the most interesting thing about your job?

I enjoy seeing a project transform from an initial idea to an actual garden space (and I love the people I work with!).

How well did the Department of Horticultural Science at NCSU prepare you for your current position?

Extremely well.

What other horticultural-related jobs did you have prior to your current position?

When I was in high school I worked at a garden center and while I was in college I worked at a local flower shop.

What made the Department of Horticultural Science at NCSU unique?

The design studio experience. It was definitely a tight-knit group and I felt that the overall vibe was very positive. I not only learned a lot from the amazing professors, but also from my classmates.

What would you say are the strengths of the Department of Horticultural Science at NCSU?

The department is extremely knowledgeable and willing to adapt to new ideas in the industry.

What words of wisdom/advice would you give students thinking about attending the Department of Horticultural Sciences at NCSU?

Cultivate friendships with everyone in the department (and other fields such as forestry or agronomy), you will definitely benefit from their knowledge and can be an additional resource to each other once you graduate.
