The objectives of the conference are multiple. First, it will provide a forum and gathering place for applied mathematicians in the Southeast. Second, SECAM will showcase the high level of activity in Applied and Industrial Mathematics in this part of the country. This mirrors the development of the high tech sector throughout the area. Finally, and most importantly, the conference will aim at fostering new activities by bringing together researchers from academia and engineers from the private sector and national labs.

The format : The conference will be organized around four broad themes: multiscale problems, industrial mathematics, material science and mathematical biology. There is a wide overlap bewteen the themes and the invited speakers have been chosen to present a seamless flow bewteen themes. The speakers will range from national and international leaders in their field to younger scientists early in their career. Contributions will be presented in three ways: 40 min. invited talks, 20 min. contributed talks. Poster sessions will be organized for graduate students.
