Where the Red Fern Grows

Activity # 1: (ART) Draw a birds-eye-view map of the riverbottom where Billy hunted with his dogs. Include landmarks such as the Ghost Coon, the deep canyon and the river. Include a key with symbols.

Activity # 2: (SPEAKING) In pairs, have students bring in a paper bag containing five items that represent key aspects of the novel's plot. Have pairs exchange bags and go to the front of the room to present the plot of the novel based on the items in the bag they are holding.
