Call for Presentations

Deadline for abstract submission is February 2, 2018.

The Program Committee of the 2018 CESU Rally encourages abstract submissions from faculty, students, and researchers for oral presentations and posters. We highly encourage presentations by completed and on-going CESU projects. We also encourage the presentation of projects that are consistent with the mission of the CESU, targeted to the areas as outlined in the call for abstracts, and are open to developing partnerships through the CESU. When submitting your abstract, please align yourself with one of the following categories:

Conservation Science and Management Research:
Examples include scientific research that may be used to manage and conserve biological diversity and ecosystem processes. Efforts to preserve and restore ecosystems and significant natural and cultural resources. Science-based management strategies and decision support tools.
Basic Research:
Examples include scientific research to understand and evaluate ecosystem processes. New applied technologies to assess physical, cultural, and biological resources in the southeast region. Natural and cultural resource studies including research on species, populations, cultural sites, and cultural resources.
Education:
Research and technical assistance projects with an education and training focus such as student, staff or volunteer hands-on training, internships, public education, professional development, and outreach and communication research and innovative products.

Deadline for abstract submission is February 2, 2018.

In addition to selecting one of the above-mentioned abstract types, the submission form requires setting up a user name and password, providing full contact information of the person completing the form, at least one named author (space for up to 5 authors is provided), keywords, and the abstract narrative (limit of 500 words).

The review committee will contact authors by email with questions, comments and the results of abstract reviews. All accepted abstracts and authors are expected to register for the conference not later than February 9, 2018. Registration fees will automatically increase on February 10 for the late registration period.

Accepted abstracts will appear in the program book that all participant receive at the conference and downloadable from the conference website. Authors will also asked for permission to post PDF versions of their presentation slides (2 slide per page format) on the conference website.

General Information for Oral Presenters

  • Oral presentation time slots will allow for 20 minutes (includes question and answer time).
  • Please see the technical program agenda to note where and when your presentation will be given.
  • Presenters should bring their presentations in PowerPoint format, using a USB portable drive (flash drive, thumb drive, etc). Presentations must be provided to the conference organizers at least two hours prior to your presentation in order to load it onto computers and test for any technical difficulties.
  • A PC computer, digital projector and laser pointer will be provided.
  • The conference organizers are seeking funds to support technology to record some or all of the oral presentations. Presenters will be notified in advance if their session will be video or audio recorded.

General Information for Poster Presenters

  • Posters may be set up on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.
  • The maximum dimensions of the poster are: 60" (152 cm) wide and 48" (120 cm) tall.
  • Each poster should be printed on paper and lamination is strongly discouraged. Poster presenters should not bring any electronic audio/visual aids with their posters.
  • Poster display supplies will be available in the poster exhibit room at the Stateview Hotel: clips, push pins (thumb tacks), and Velcro strips. If you prefer, you may bring these items yourself.
  • At least one of the poster authors must be present, stationed beside their poster during the poster session scheduled to take place on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
  • Posters should be removed before 2:00 pm on Friday, March 16, 2018. Hotel staff will dispose of all unclaimed materials.
