We appreciate your interests in Universal Design, a global movement of inclusive design practice initiated at NC State University College of Design. The Center for Universal Design is currently not active due to funding challenges. We are working to revive the Center, hopefully in the near future. We are unable at this time to provide assistance to your design inquiries.

  ABOUT UD: UNIVERSAL DESIGN PRINCIPLES

The authors, a working group of architects, product designers, engineers and environmental design researchers, collaborated to establish the Principles of Universal Design to guide a wide range of design disciplines including environments, products, and communications. These seven principles may be applied to evaluate existing designs, guide the design process and educate both designers and consumers about the characteristics of more usable products and environments.

The Principles of Universal Design are available in several formats:

If you are seeking permission to use the Principles of Universal Design, please review the following guidelines click here to view or download in PDF format.

Additionally, the Principles of Universal Design are also available in Non-English versions
